Environmental Policy
It is the policy of Anco Furniture Sdn Bhd to avoid using wood that has been illegally harvested, and wood from genetically modified trees, from areas where traditional or civil rights are violated, and from uncertified high conservation value forests, as described in the current FSC Percentage Based Claim policy when applying the FSC policy. Unless approved by the relevant authorities, Anco Furniture Sdn Bhd will also avoid using woods from forests that are being cleared or converted. The company has appointed a contact person responsible for implementing this policy.
If it is demonstrated that any of our sup[pliers are using wood from such sources, we will promptly take the appropriate actions, including stopping purchases from such sources for products covered by this policy.
We are committed to making the best effort to identify the sources of wood used for products labeled according to the FSC rules, and to publish reports on the origin of the materials used in the products affected with sufficient geographical resolution to ensure compliance with the policy. If it proves impossible to identify the origin of some of these raw materials, we are commiteed to replacing them with materials which can be sourced with confidence. Our reports will describe our system for verifying and monitoring our sources, the proportions of raw materials which have not yet been verified, and steps are being taken to replace materials of unknown origin. We sought to continuously increase the proportion of forests products that originate from well managed and independently certified forests.
ANCO is fully committed to sustainable forestry. We support sustainable forestry through 3 mechanisms: FSC, TFT and MFTN.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that brings people together to find solutions which promote responsible stewardship of the world’s forests. The goal of FSC is to promote environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests, by establishing a worldwide standard of recognized and respected Principles of Forest Stewardship.
While ANCO does not own any forest concession, it supports the sustainable forestry movement through purchasing and processing of FSC timber into FSC furniture. All FSC furniture from ANCO are labeled with the FSC trademark.

Chain of Custody (FSC-CoC)
The unbroken chain which takes the product through all stages of manufacturing, transformation and distribution, i.e. from forest to consumer, is called the Chain of Custody.
Chain-of-Custody certification provides evidence that the certified product originates from certified well managed forests, and verifies that these products are not mixed with products from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain except under strict controls when percentage labelling is being used. ANCO is certified by Soil Association of the UK to produce 100% Pure FSC garden furniture (SA-COC-001625).
Tropical Forest Trusts (TFT)
The TFT is a UK registered not-for-profit company. The TFT helps committed companies and wood product manufacturers anchor their supply chains in FSC forests or forests moving toward FSC.
The TFT helps Buying and Supplying members ensure that their wood is delivered through robust Wood Control Systems by guiding the implementation and monitoring of Chian of Custody systems in the forest, in transit from the forest to the factory gate, and through the factory. Members can thus claim with confidence that the wood in their products comes from TFT supported forests, and that no illegal wood has entered their supply chain.

Malaysian Forest and Trade Network (MFTN)
Malaysia Forest & Trade Network (MFTN) is the Malaysian chapter of WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) established to improve forest management in Malaysia and provide access to responsible markets. In addition, MFTN aims to raise consumer and corporate awareness on more responsible wood and paper procurement practices and policies. MFTN reflects WWF-Malaysia’s commitment towards improving forest management in Malaysia.
In April 2007, ANCO signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MFTN to become one of the participant of the MFTN. By signing on, ANCO makes a public documented, time-bound commitments to phase out all trade in timber from unknown, illegal and controversial sources within 5 years, and phase in wood that originates from sources that can be designated as:
- known and complying with policy
- legal source
- verified legal
- in-progress towards certification, or
- credibly certified
Not only are we FSC-CoC certified, we are members of the Tropical Forest Trusts. In April 2007, we also signed up to become a participant of the Malaysian Forest and Trade Network (MFTN). MFTN is the Malaysian chapter of the Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN). GFTN is an initiative by Worldwide Fund for Nature
